Who uses Cestas and Idols and where do you find runes? Are there any in pre-sear Ascalon? Can runes be inserted into weapons?

My characters always seem to be broke. (So far I have only played in the training grounds) but I was hoping I could maybe get some decent weapons and armor before I enter the academy. Can this be done? What is the best way of making a bit of gold?

Cestas and Idols are for spellcasters to boost energy and more. It's instead of a shield, no defense but other nice stuff.

You can't find runes, but you can salvage for them. Use an Expert Salvage Kit on armor pieces dropped by enemies and try for a rune. You can put the runes into your armor, not weapons.

i dont think that there are any armor drops in pre-searing. i have killed a half dozen char or so and got some charr thingamadoo, but not charr armor. you can only salvage runes from armor drops, and you need an expert salvage kit for that. since those aren't available in the pre-searing anyhow, i doubt you would ever see a rune.

money is most easily made in the pre-searing region by killing stuff and selling everything that drops. i believe i made 1000 gold in about an hour or so. some of the quests have monetary rewards as well.
